Just returned from a 7 night stay at the Hotel La Pergola. I booked this hotel for myself and my mum, and as another reviewer mentioned, was slightly hesitant after some of the reviews left at the end of August. We arrived at the hotel about 2 hours before we could 'officially' check in (due to an early flight time) but the two women working reception were kind, knowledgeable and accommodating. They took our passports and stored them safely away (I think each pigeon hole may even have been locked, but I could be mistaken). Luckily, our room was ready early, which was a lovely surprise. The AC worked perfectly and we had absolutely no trouble with the temperature, even my mum, who suffers from the odd hot flush, was very happy. The rooms are basic but comfortable, and are cleaned every day by a wonderful and friendly group of cleaners. Breakfast was fab, a classic continental but had things to suit everyone. After 7 days I think I had eaten enough ham and cheese, but that's purely personal. The hotel is a little walk into the centre of Sorrento, around 15 minutes, but honestly in the heat of the day it feels more like 30. The hotel have obviously tried to combat this by putting on the shuttle bus, run by Tony who was lovely, but there is a large portion in the middle of the day where it doesn't run (from 12:30ish to 6pm), meaning there were a couple of long walks back to the hotel - however we made it work and it wasn't a problem. Gorgeous sun trap roof terrace with a covered area that was literally empty apart from me and mum, which was a real treat. The gentleman who worked the reception at night and tended to the breakfast was really friendly and personable, and made our stay really enjoyable. Overall, really good stay, location slightly further out than I would stay again, but that's personal preference, and forgot to mention the Hotel's Restaurant, Cafe Latino - set back from the Corso Italia under a blanket of trees, it was wonderful. Staff were kind and food was amazing!
